About Coastal Downsizing

At Coastal Downsizing Auctions & Real Estate, our journey began with a simple but powerful realization: life transitions are rarely easy. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the closing of a business, or the need to downsize, we saw firsthand how overwhelming these moments can be. We believed there had to be a better, more efficient, and more compassionate way to help.

In 2019, we launched Coastal Downsizing with a mission to serve clients with empathy and excellence. After exploring traditional estate sales, we quickly saw that the auction method — especially online — offered far greater reach, speed, and value. Combining our experience from attending live auctions and building businesses, we set out to create a full-service auction and real estate company that could do it all.

Today, our company has evolved into Coastal Downsizing Auctions & Real Estate — a licensed, insured, and bonded Virginia auction firm serving clients across the region. We liquidate all types of assets, from fine jewelry, coins, and collectibles to vehicles, farm equipment, and real estate. Whether it’s a single high-value item or an entire estate, there’s no asset we can’t help you sell.

Our auction gallery focuses on high-end consignment items, while our Coastal Marketplace platform gives estate sale companies, resellers, and even DIY clients the ability to host their own online sales. We also plan to expand the platform by partnering with authorized affiliates from Virginia to Florida.

Behind the company are Tom and Becky Lyons, lifelong entrepreneurs with a passion for service. After growing a small fire protection business into the largest firm of its kind in Hampton Roads, they turned their focus to helping families and businesses navigate life’s major transitions. Becky, a licensed real estate agent, is now pursuing her broker license to support affiliate growth and enhance service. Tom comes from a family of entrepreneurs and creatives, including a father who was a graphic artist and DJ and an uncle who built one of the region’s largest amusement companies.
